Please forgive me for a minute while I rant….I cannot believe the Seahawks called that play! I don’t know if you’re into American football or not, but you don’t have to be to get this lesson.
…..it was second and goal with 26 seconds left on the clock. The Seattle Seahawks were on the one yard line, behind 4 points to the New England Patriots, with two time outs remaining and arguably one of the best running backs in the league, and they decide to throw a quick slant pass. After 4 hours of watching the game it felt like the blink of an eye and the whole outcome changed in an instant. From certain victory to certain defeat with one risky decision! The slant pass was intercepted and the Patriots snatched a win from the claws of defeat. A rather painful result if you are a Seattle fan like I am!
But hey…not every decision works right? So, what is the lesson? Is it – to always play to your strengths? Is it that there are no right and wrong decisions only the one you make and then you set out to make it right? Is it to learn from your mistakes? Is it to trust your instincts and not care what anyone else thinks of you? I’m sure the outcome will be debated for weeks, but I think any of those lessons would be beneficial.
In the end it was a great game – where two worthy teams left everything they had on the field for themselves, their team mates and their fans. A true lesson in gamesmanship!
