Have you ever thought about why your business exists? So that every time you go to work it feels like you’re on a mission to do something that is meaningful and inspiring for you!
Here’s a piece I borrowed from a superb book on the topic:
“In his riveting book “Man’s Search for Meaning”, Psychiatrist Viktor Frankl describes life in Nazi death camps and its lessons for spiritual survival. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of others he treated later in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose. Frankl’s theory-known as logotherapy, from the Greek word logos (“meaning”)-holds that our primary drive in life is not pleasure, as Freud maintained, but the discovery and pursuit of what we personally find meaningful.”
Assigning positive meaning to important things is a great way to leverage yourself. Go ahead and try it. Pick a cause that has meaning for you. Find a legitimate way to associate it to your work or business. Invest 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening visualizing yourself contributing to this cause through your work. It’s important to do this in the present tense as if you were doing it right now, not as if you plan to do it one day. Do this for 30 days, adding detail as you go, and the repetition will cause an imprint in your subconscious mind changing the way you feel about your work so much so that it will transfer to others around you in the form of a better energy.
Let me know how it goes for you!
