Have you ever caught yourself trying to quit a bad habit? I’m guessing it didn’t work. In fact, it never will work and here’s why.
It is one of nature’s laws that a bad habit cannot just be quit. It must be replaced by another habit. And of course replacing it with a good habit will serve you best. It might be your habit to get up in the morning and watch the news; filling your mind with useless, anxiety fraught information. Instead, replace that with 20 minutes of inspirational reading, going for a walk, or reviewing your goals. You may be in the habit of looking at your emails first thing in the morning. Replace that with some journaling to capture the brilliant thoughts your subconscious has been working on while you slept. You might be in the habit of going straight to your desk when you arrive to work. Replace that by walking around, greeting and checking in with your team.
What bad habits of yours could use replacing?
