Do you make decisions based on your principles or your emotions?
Last week I found myself driving to work dreaming of a big breakfast. Some kind of egg related ensemble with plenty of greasy calories would do – served by a friendly waitress gushing to satisfy my every dietary pleasure. I caught myself before this magnetic vision was complete…and reminded my inner child of our health goals. I dialed up my level of dissatisfaction and summoned up a vision of my healthy self, strutting proudly down the street in summer gear. Feelings of confidence filled me as I gathered my discipline and headed for the grocery store to stock up my office fridge with and assortment of energy bars, fresh fruit, nuts and yogurt.
Life and business are full of temptations. Following your emotions can be hazardous to your goals. Letting your principles and values guide you will lead you to what you really need.
